Thus far I have attempted to explain that Witchcraft is solely a religious practice within itself. Wicca, however, consists of several different belief systems. These include European folk-lore (Mythology), Eastern philosophy, the Quabala, and of course, some of the aspects of the Craft. Broken down, the particulars of these incorporated categories can better be explained as follows:
European folk-lore is pretty much self-explanitory, as 'myths' play a large part in all religions. Myths are, in my opinion, an attempt to introduce, symbolize, and explain the many Deities of all cultures. Through folk-lore we are able to grasp and understand the principals, the beneficial and restrictive aspects of each individual Deity. Although the structure of myths are are conveyed as fanciful, far-fetched stories - the Deities which they represent may very well be of a more realistic nature.
From Eastern Philosophy, Wicca derives several believe systems. One of which is the concept of 'Karma'. The Three-fold Law is soley based on the theory of Karma. Wicca also gets its concept of 'Reincarnation' from Eastern Philosophy - dating back to ancient Egypt. Many practices of 'Divination' also stem from the East.
And finally we come to the Mystical Quabala. It is from these teachings that Wicca incorporates the Callings of Guardians, the Correspondences of The Quarters, as well as concepts of 'Path-working', etc.
The primary categories of practices in Wicca which come directly from the learnings of the Craft would include; the worship of Pagan Deities, the celebration of the Sabbats, 'magickal herbalism', candle burning, and other methods of rituals and spell-working.
In combination, all of the included religious elements which exist in the foundation of Wicca make it an unexhaustable study - if properly approached.
In the pages to follow, I will attempt to address the many facets of Wiccan teachings, as well as other subjects which I consider to be of importance to anyone serious about their 'studies'. Much of the material I will cover may seem a bit 'common knowledge' in the Wiccan circles. But in my careful editing of each subject, you are likely to find a different, and hopefully 'enlightening' perspective. Likewise, much of which I cover will not be so 'run-of-the-mill', and you, therefore, are likely to walk away with a more in-depth (and accurate) understanding of the issues I will cover.
I have always felt that even the smallest new 'insight' or lesson learned, is a gift - a blessing. -A 'gem' well worth being treasured.
